Along with an overview and explanation of the different exemptions that assessors encounter, attendees will be given a set of facts along with a completed exemption application to determine if the exemption should be approved or disapproved. Discussion will cover the senior citizen exemption, veteran exemptions, STAR, and not-for-profit exemptions. Other topics include the IVP program, FOIL issues about exemption applications, and what to know about those state audits of assessor’s offices.
