Understanding the New Disabled Veterans Exemption

Recent changes to RPTL §458-a have generated considerable discussion and, understandably, considerable confusion regarding the new property tax exemption for certain permanently and totally disabled veterans.

Join Benjamin Pomerance, Deputy Counsel for the New York State Department of Veterans' Services, for a brief webinar discussing the recent legislative changes, the veterans affected by them, and the Department's perspective on the new exemption.

With formal administrative guidance from the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services (ORPTS) still forthcoming, this webinar provides assessors with an opportunity to better understand the legislation and its evolution while we await additional guidance regarding its implementation.

This webinar is intended to help assessors better understand the legislation, the perspective of the veterans it affects, and the issues surrounding its implementation as we prepare to administer the changes to RPTL §458-a.
