| Brief Job Description |
The Assessor is responsible for the annual valuation and assessment of approximately 7,500 parcels, including residential, commercial, agricultural, vacant land, condominiums, new construction, and other taxable property. Duties include preparation of the annual assessment roll; property inspections and valuation; administration of approximately 330 exemptions; review of deeds and property transfers; PILOT administration; required NYS and County reporting; preparation of the departmental budget; response to FOIL and public inquiries; and representation of the Town in SCAR and tax certiorari matters.
The position requires significant public interaction and additional availability during the May assessment grievance period. The Assessor works closely with the Town Board, Board of Assessment Review, Town Attorney, Putnam County Director of Real Property, and New York State agencies |
