Qualifications Needed A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a baccalaureate degree; or,
B) Four (4) years of experience or its part time equivalent in the field inspection and appraisal of real estate, or in an administrative capacity in the building construction or real property management fields which relates to building costs and values; or,
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
Certification Needed Must be able to complete necessary basic certifications within first year of employment.
Brief Job Description DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for assisting in the preparation of real property assessment rolls. Under minimal supervision, an employee in this class collects and analyzes data to determine the assessment of real property. A Deputy Commissioner plans the details of each assessment but the employee must exercise independent professional judgment. Deputy Assessors exercises no supervision. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assembles and compiles data for reports for the Commissioner of Assessment or Deputy Commissioner.
Determines or evaluates increases in assessment rolls due to new construction or alterations to existing buildings.
Determines or evaluates decreases in assessment rolls caused by demolition, fire damage, tax lien foreclosures, or property exemptions.
Assists a deputy commissioner on field inspections.
Prepares appraisals and assists in the determination of individual property valuations.
Inspects construction of buildings and prepares property history cards.
Studies market conditions in regard to rent, mortgages, sales and construction costs.
Contact with the public on general questions of assessed valuation.
